Basilej.
Outreach Termíny: 3rd – 13th of July
Basel, a city on the Rhine at the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, stands literally at a crossroads of Europe. Three nations, three languages and countless cultures come together here. Basel was once home to the Reformers, a place where Erasmus and Oecolampadius lived and where the printing press carried God’s Word across the entire continent. We believe this city carries a divine calling: to be a gateway through which the Gospel can flow freshly into three nations – a city where what God does never stays local, but crosses borders.
With around 180,000 inhabitants in the city and over 830,000 in the tri-national region, Basel is a major hub for pharmaceuticals, research, art and education. Students, young professionals, families, migrants, and people from Muslim, Jewish and secular backgrounds live side by side here. But behind the prosperity, the art and the elegant beauty along the Rhine lies a deep spiritual hunger. Many carry success on their shoulders and emptiness in their hearts. An entire generation of young people is searching for meaning beyond career, consumerism and status – searching for real hope, for belonging, for the living God. Hearts are more open than the city shows on the surface. The harvest is great and ripe.
Over 200 years ago, the Basel Mission was founded here – one of the oldest mission movements in Europe, carrying the Gospel to four continents. What God once sent out from this city into the world, He wants to reignite again – this time starting on the streets of Basel itself. We believe the time has come. We declare that this city will once again become a place of encounter with Jesus – a gateway through which awakening flows into three nations. Let us, as the body of Christ, stand together across all church and national borders, go out boldly, and proclaim the full Gospel. God is not finished with Basel. What He begins here will touch Switzerland, Germany and France. Come and be part of it as this city experiences a fresh encounter with the love and power of Jesus!

By plane
The closest airport is EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL/MLH/EAP) – located only about 8 km from the city centre and usually the fastest option.
IMPORTANT about EuroAirport: The airport is geographically located in France but has two separate exits – one Swiss and one French. Make sure to follow signs to the Swiss exit (“Suisse / Schweiz”) as soon as you reach baggage claim. From the Swiss exit, Bus line 50 takes you directly to Basel SBB station in about 15 minutes. If you accidentally exit on the French side, you will end up in France and have to go back through customs – so watch the signs carefully. By car/taxi, the city centre is about 15-20 minutes away.
Alternatives for international travellers:
– Zurich Airport (ZRH): Direct train to Basel SBB, approx. 1 h 10 min, every 30 minutes.
– Frankfurt Airport (FRA): Direct ICE train to Basel SBB, approx. 3 hours.
– Stuttgart Airport (STR): Approx. 3-3.5 hours by train with a transfer.
By train – often the best option
Basel is one of the best-connected railway stations in Switzerland with direct trains from several capital cities – for many participants from Europe, the train is cheaper, easier and more sustainable than flying:
– Paris -> Basel SBB: TGV Lyria, approx. 3 hours, multiple connections daily
– Frankfurt -> Basel SBB: ICE, approx. 3 hours
– Milan -> Basel SBB: EuroCity, approx. 4 hours
– Stuttgart -> Basel SBB: ICE, approx. 3 hours

Pohyb po městě

Local tips
Basel is a very pedestrian-friendly city – the old town, the cathedral, the Rhine, and most central meeting points are only a few minutes’ walk from each other. In summer, you can use the traditional Rhine ferries (e.g. “Wilde Maa”, “Vogel Gryff”, “Leu”, “Ueli”) to cross the river for just a few francs – a true Basel experience.
– Bicycles: PubliBike Basel (https://www.publibike.ch/de/home) offers bike-sharing across the city.
– E-scooters: Voi, Tier and Bolt all operate in Basel.
– Taxi/Uber: Uber works in Basel. Taxis can be found at the station or booked by phone.
– Car: Parking in the city centre is limited and expensive – public transport or a bike are clearly the better choice.
