Groningen for Jesus

Outreach Dates: 13th – 26th of July

Come Up North! Because there is nothing above Groningen Groningen: a student city, lively, creative, vibrant and down-to-earth. It is a city known for it’s rich historical background, it’s many cyclists and it’s nightlife. Today, Groningen is still culturally shaped by Christianity. You can sense this in it’s language, village life, buildings, and traditions. But in practical terms, active religious life has become much smaller than it was a century ago. So it is time to rebuild the ruins of Groningen and awaken the church! ‘Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.’ Isaiah 58:12 (NLT) People in Groningen are in need of Jesus! With roughly 50,000 students and 245,000 inhabitants, this city is ready for the harvest! We see that a move of God has already begun and the lives of many young people are being radically changed by the gospel. But this is only the beginning. We are expectant about what God wants to do in this city. Will you come and join us as we go out and see people saved, healed and delivered? We want to see a great move of God in Groningen that will spread throughout the Netherlands. And God wants to use you! No matter your background and no matter how many times you’ve done street evangelism, we encourage you to come to the north of the Netherlands to join us. We need you! Let your testimony echo through the streets of Groningen, pointing people to the victory of Jesus Christ!

Join the WhatsApp Channel for the latest updates.

Each day we are going on the streets for a couple of hours to share the Gospel and see many life-changing encounters, pray for healing and love on people. We have breaks where you can grab lunch and dinner and regular times to gather for worship, prayer and to hear the amazing testimonies of what God is doing on the streets.

We will send you more specific information on the city through the WhatsApp Channel. You can join for any of the days. Simply let us know what weeks/days you can commit to once we start the registration for the city.

All participants are responsible to cover all of their own costs (flights, accommodation, transportation, food etc.) We believe this will be a great investment into the Gospel being spread all over Europe.

How to Get There

The best airport to reach Groningen is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). From Schiphol, you can take a direct train to Groningen railway station, which takes approximately 2–2.5 hours. Look for trains heading to “Groningen” or with a transfer at Zwolle railway station. This is usually the fastest and most convenient option. By car, the journey takes around 2 hours, depending on traffic. A smaller regional option is Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ), located about 20 minutes by car from the city, though it has fewer international connections.

Getting Around the City

Groningen is a compact and bike-friendly city, making it very easy to get around. The main transport options include walking, cycling, buses, and shared mobility services. The city center is fully walkable, and from Groningen railway station, it takes about 7 minutes to reach the Grote Markt. Cycling is the most popular mode of transport, with over 60% of journeys made by bike. Bikes and e-bikes can be rented through NS or local providers. There are also shared services like Dott, Voi, and Check, offering e-bikes and e-scooters via mobile apps. The bus network is reliable and covers the entire city and surrounding areas. A single ride costs around €2–€3, and tickets can be purchased using an OV-chipkaart or contactless payment. For routes, schedules, and planning, use apps like 9292 or NS app. For more information, visit: 9292 journey planner If you arrive by car, it is best to use Park & Ride (P+R) facilities on the outskirts and continue by bus or bike. This is usually the cheapest and easiest option.

Local Tips

Groningen’s city center is completely walkable and largely car-free, making it ideal for exploring on foot. Ride services like Uber and Bolt are available, especially useful at night. For flexible travel, shared bikes and scooters from providers like Dott, Voi, and Check are widely used and easy to access via apps. Overall, the city’s efficient transport system allows you to move quickly and focus on your activities rather than logistics.
